Project:

Futuristic Basketball Uniform

Summary:

Redefined traditional basketball uniforms by designing a high-tech, seamless women’s basketball uniform and letterman jacket with sustainable attributes, envisioning the future of the sport. Anticipating a faster-paced game enhanced by AR and VR training, the uniform integrates advanced compression technology for flexibility and performance. The jacket features an innovative cooling system, allowing players to activate targeted “ice mode” zones for muscle recovery, eliminating the limitations of traditional icing methods

Key Contributions:

  • Conceptualized and developed futuristic basketball apparel, integrating sustainability and performance-driven technology.

  • Designed and maintained CAD models, detailed drawings, and flat patterns for production.

  • Enhanced expertise in Adobe Suite, sketching, sewing, and patternmaking.

  • Engineered a smart cooling jacket with targeted icing zones, improving post-game muscle recovery.

Under Armour Initiatives:

Sustainability

Creating apparel that reduces material waste and using more sustainable materials

Team Sports

Developing a functional basketball uniform that enhances the performance of the athlete

Diversity & Inclusion

A sustainable uniform inspired by diverse environments like Baltimore

Access to Sports

An initiative to plant a tree for every uniform sold to maintain cooler temperatures in the inner city, because as climate change worsens access to sports becomes limited

The Setting:

2042

In 2042, we witness a noticeable surge in the real-time impact of global warming. Daily routines are deeply entwined with advanced technologies such as augmented reality (AR) and autonomous vehicles. High-tech clothing is crafted from a single high-tech material, characterized by subdued color palettes.

The Uniform

The form-fitted aesthetic was chosen to enhance players' range of motion while also improving sustainability through a fully seamless design. Integrated tracking technology analyzes body movements, while embedded tech enables users to interact with AR products, enhancing their viewing experience.

The Uniform

Material & Technology

The ultra-thin nanomaterial, composed of titanium, carbon, and nitrogen, detects muscle fatigue by monitoring acid imbalance. In basketball uniforms, specific zones target high-risk muscles, allowing trainers to assess fatigue in real-time to prevent injury

Sensors are woven into the material to communicate to external devices

The Jacket

The jacket is more than just a fashion piece—it doubles as a recovery garment with embedded technology to soothe sore muscles post-game. Additionally, its AR compatibility enhances the design, creating a dynamic and immersive experience when viewed through smart glasses.

The Jacket

Recovery Technology

After games, players commonly ice sore muscles, although the recommended duration is 20 minutes, most only ice for 10 minutes. Our jacket employs cooling technology in specific zones to target muscles for icing. Users can activate the "ice mode" in the desired areas of the jacket without leaking and the immobility of ice.

There is cooling technology in the fibers to treat muscle soreness
